Big ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the place of westminster in london and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower.the tower is officially known as Elizabeth Tower,renamed to celebrate the diamond jubilee of elizabeth ll in 2012.The tower holds second largest four-faced chiming clock in the world (after Minneapolis City hall.)The tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom and is often in the establishing shot of films set in London.The Bottom 6.10 m of the tower's structure consists of brickwork with sand coloured Anston limestone claddingThe remainder of the tower's height is a farmed spire of cast iron.the tower's is founded on a 15.2 m square raft,made of 3.0 m thick concrete at a depth of 4.0 m below ground level.the four clock dials are 54.9 m above ground.the interior volume of the tower is  4650 cubic metres.in 2008 a survery of 2,000 people found that the tower was the most popular landmark in the United Kingdom
